The Ministry of the Environment is proud to announce the launch of the National Climate Change Policy by 2050, a transcendental milestone in our efforts to address the global challenge of climate change to build together as a country, inclusive, low-emission, socio-economic development and resilient to climate change.
The National Climate Change Policy for 2050 establishes a bold and proactive vision to guide our actions in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, adapting to climate change and promoting resilience in all sectors of Panamanian society.
Aware of the urgency to act and committed to the Paris Agreement, Panama has developed this comprehensive policy, which establishes ambitious goals and concrete measures to mitigate the effects of climate change and guarantee sustainable development in the long term.
The main pillars of the National Climate Change Policy to 2050 include:
Reduction of emissions: Panama is committed to implementing effective strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, promoting the adoption of clean technologies and the transition towards a low carbon economy.
Adaptation and resilience: Capacities to face the impacts of climate change will be strengthened and the implementation of adaptation measures will be promoted in key sectors such as agriculture, water resources, infrastructure and health.
Participation and cooperation: The active participation of all society actors will be encouraged, including the public, private and civil society sectors, promoting national and international collaboration to achieve the established objectives.
Resource mobilization: The mobilization of financial resources will be actively sought, both nationally and internationally, promoting cooperation and access to climate financing for mitigation and adaptation projects.
The National Climate Change Policy for 2050 marks the beginning of a new chapter in our commitment to the environment and will lay the foundations for a more resilient, green and prosperous Panama.
